Take a moment and get to know the members of OLD SCHOOL…
 |
Tenor: Rick Taylor is a proud member and musical director for the Chorus of the Chesapeake, Dundalk, MD chapter of the Barbershop Harmony Society. He is also a member of the Alexandria Harmonizers. Rick is what is often known as a “barbershop brat”, meaning that he is the son of a barbershopper. In fact not only is his dad a barbershopper, but was also a barber (not that you would be able to tell by some of the pictures we’ve seen). Rick has sung in several notable quartets, beginning back in his junior year in high school, (you know when slate and chalk were used). The rumor is true that he missed his senior prom in order to compete in his first division contest. Rick’s dad, Bob Taylor sang baritone along with son Rick together in the now famous, “Virginia Gentleman”. In spite of that experience (oops...BECAUSE of) Rick continued his prolific quartet career. Rick’s the proud owner of 7 international bronze quartet medals (4 as baritone with BSQ and 3 as tenor with Riptide). Rick still manages to avoid chores at home by coaching quartets and choruses, both hither and ‘yon. In his spare time, he works for Home MediService, a home medical equipment supply company based in Havre de Grace, Maryland. Rick and his beautiful and talented (and also a barbershop brat and extremely patient) wife, Susan reside in Abingdon, Maryland.

Lead: "Awesome" Joe Connelly is a proud member of The Chorus of the Chesapeake and the Easton Chapter, and surely of many others we don’t know about yet. Joe is also a “barbershop brat” and one of his endeavors is still happily singing with his dad in “Way Back When” from the Dixie District. After cutting his teeth while listening to his dad sing baritone in the multi-time medalist quartet the “Roaring 20’s”, little Joe Joe soon began his now famous career. By the way, Joe did make it to his senior prom and has the pictures to prove it. Joe coaches quartets and choruses all over the globe, trying to hone his skills. Who said it can’t be done? Joe has sung in many quartets, most notably the Interstate Rivals - 1987 International Champions, Keepsake - International Champs in 1992, and Platinum - International Champs in 2000. That’s right a three-time quartet International gold medalist. Joe lives in his home town of Cincinnati, Ohio. Although he is unmarried, Joe had to turn down all bids for him to appear on “The Bachelor”, he had too many coaching gigs. |

Bass: Joe "Bass Beast" Krones is yet another “barbershop brat” in this quartet. Joe has the distinction of directing a chorus in which his father, father-in-law, and his son all sing. He has been directing choruses since the tender age of 21. The most recent chorus is the West Towns Chorus, where he has been since 2004; he is also doing his share of coaching quartets and choruses. Joe started quartetting at age 16, and since we don’t know much about his prom, it must have been uneventful. Joe is a talented singer, and most recently won the District championship in a quartet called “Stolen Basses”. One might guess this means that the quartet was made up entirely of men who usually sing the bass part. It was quite a battle to see who (got stuck singing the lead part, oops, I mean) won the distinction of singing the lead part (and he even sang tenor on one song). Happily, in the case of Old School, there won’t be a division of duties in that regard. Joe is a four time Illinois District quartet champion, and other than his stint at lead in Stolen Basses, he is a Bass Beast. Joe was the famous mega-bass in the 2003 International finalist quartet, Cheers! Joe is also a fairly important muckety-muck with Subway, but don’t bother to ask for free food, he won’t even give us any. He is married to the beautiful and talented (and really, really, extremely patient), Jana. They have continued the barbershop brat tradition since both children, Heather and Chase, AND even mom are active in the “hobby”. The Kroneses (or Kroni, or whatever it is that you call a covey of Kroneses) live in Peoria, Illinois, but will soon be moving parts and parcel to Chicago. Joe likes raisins. |

Baritone: Jack Pinto is a “barbershop brat”. (I bet you weren’t expecting that.) As brats go, Jack truly has that job all sewn up. No one is entirely sure if Jack had a senior prom and no one is asking (you know how those Jersey guys are). Jack directs the Brothers in Harmony from Easton, PA., and coaches quartets and choruses all over the place. Jack is quite talented and is a great “utility player”, having the ability to sing all four parts, and sing them quite well. He has been trying to graduate with his degree in Voice for the past few decades. In the meantime Jack earned a bronze medal with BSQ and has made several appearances on the international stage in quartets and as a chorus director. Jack lives in Hamilton, NJ, at least for now perhaps staying on the move is a good idea. In Jack’s line of work he needs to stay light on his feet. |
